Today we started out on another small adventure….Australia?…Bogota?…Moscow?…Italy?….Nope, just St. Louis, Missouri to invade my brother’s place, but have no fear this is going to be packed with lots of fun and laughter for sure! My Dad celebrates his 60th birthday Friday (Happy Birthday Daddy!!!!!!!!) and we are having a giant party for it. Ok, not really having a party per say, but we are planning on going to a Cubs vs. Cardinals game Friday night.
However, we are having four days of fun and relaxation which started today with our obvious travel to St. Louis. However, on the way we stopped at Hannibal to see Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. We saw the outside of Mark Twain’s boyhood home (quick side note: we have seen His adult home in Hartford, Connecticut on previous travels), Becky Thatcher’s house, the famous whitewashing fence, and other buildings of historic downtown,
The house on the right is Mark Twain’s boyhood home.
Mom and Natalie hard at work!
Aren’t they doing a great job whitewashing the fence?
Becky Thatcher’s (Tom Sawyer’s sweetheart) house.
We also walked down and saw the Mighty Mississippi. There was also a lookout and a lighthouse up a hill, so climbed some stairs found the lookout, Climbed some more stairs, climbed even more stairs, walked up a little hill, saw the lighthouse farther up with even MORE stairs to climbed, turned around and walked down. lol.
The Mighty Mississippi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bottom of the area which leads to the lookout and lighthouse (stairs on left of pic)
View from lookout,
One set of stairs to lighthouse…
Where we admitted defeat and turned back (or just had seen enough) :)
Natalie and I were proud of our accomplishment!
Mom and Zach walking back down
After Hannibal we continued on to St. Louis where we stopped at the Boeing store and bought some cool clothing. I also got an AH-64 Apache Longbow magnet (that is the most awesome attack helicopter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Then we proceeded to Nathan’s place, but we couldn’t get in until he got off work, so we wondered around. After he got home, we hit the pool, which was really nice and warm since it has been in the 90s and 100s. It was such a blast in the pool. We had races and contests to see who could hold their breather the longest. Zach was winning everything. He held his breather for 2 minutes and 6 seconds (My longest was only 56 seconds). Nathan then made us dinner and now we are just hanging out. Thus the end of the start of our adventure. lol. More to come soon (tomorrow we are going to Six Flags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Before I go I would like to share some of my favorite Mark Twain quotes that I found today…
“Go to Heaven for climate, Hell for company”
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.
Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.
Don’t let schooling interfere with your education
“That’s All Folks!"
